About Me

Hello! My name is Susan Larsen and welcome to the Crafty Wildflower.

Susan Larsen and family

I’m a lover of crafts, adventures and I love to read anything and everything! Why the Crafty Wildflower? Well I’ll start with the Wildflower part. My husband and I have been married for 20 years, we have four wonderful children now, but we met 22 years ago. When we met I was two years past losing my dad, a father to 10 kids. I was 17 years old when we met and God sent him to me to help me navigate the world ahead. As a team we helped out with my younger siblings who were also going through the grief and transition of losing a father. It was difficult. Hard. Awful. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything in this world, because of that experience and hardship in my life I believe it shaped me to become who I am today. Flawed, happy and hopeful. I choose happiness everyday because I want to be happy.

Can you be happy after trauma and grief?

I believe you can. My husband wrote me a poem about a year after we were dating called “The Wildflower.” It’s an upbeat encouraging beautiful piece of work that inspires the belief that even if you’re sown among the rocks you can still rise through it all and become beautiful and strong. In fact, growing among the rocks, where no one expects, is what makes you just that. He has since made it into a book that can be given to those who are going through a difficult time. See our link to the book:

As far as the crafty side, well thats how I handle life but it came a little later. Like 3 or 4 kids later. I thought I’d gone through the worst thing in my entire life, it was awfully hard but it turns out I still have a lot to learn. We’ve had our share of health issues, syndrome diagnosis and treating everything in between. I love projects and working with my hands. When my hands are busy my mind is quiet and peaceful. Creating has brought me healing and happiness. Are all my ideas original? Not even close. Like all of us we are inspired by those around us, it becomes part of us and what comes out is our own version and piece of us. I always link back to those that I love and who inspire me and I hope others will do the same. I am a believer in being happy when others succeed and that when we are helping others we are helping the world become a better place and that’s something I want to be a part of.

So come, stay awhile. If you see something you like, let me know!

hugs,

Susan
